Carolene Thornton, Ed.D.
is the Co-Director for the Springdale Center for Effective Parenting at the Jones Center
for Families. She is currently with the Family Resource Center located at the JTL Shop,
Springdale, AR. An adjunct professor with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences,
she was employed by the University of Arkansas as an Academic Tutor for the Educational
Talent Search program. Carolene is a former elementary principal, gifted and talented
coordinator, and classroom teacher. She was employed by the Department of Human Services
and is currently supervising TEA recipients in a worksite training program. She is a
strong advocate for children and families and is very dedicated to promoting and
encouraging family values. Dr. Thornton works closely with the Effective Parenting Council
and has been a leader in facilitating parenting classes in Northwest Arkansas.

Dee Austin, Ed.D. is the
Parent Educator for the Center for Effective Parenting (Jones Center, Springdale). She is a
Licensed Professional Counselor and has been in private practice in three states, most
recently in Los Angeles, CA. She is a former classroom teacher and guidance counselor on
the secondary level; and Academic Advisor, Coordinator of Career Counseling, and a Dean of
Student Affairs on the univcersity level. Dee has extensive experience on the national
level as a motivational and inspirational speaker, and seminar leader. She is a published
author and has written and produced a training curriculum for church leaders, and an audio
cassette series, Positive Actions for Negative Feelings.

Suzann Hernandez,
B.S., is the Outreach and Project Specialist. She graduated from John
Brown University and received her degree in Family and Consumer Science. After graduating,
she was the director of the John Brown University Nursery School, where she taught 3 and 4
year old children and supervised students in education and psychology. The next twenty
years, she taught junior high school and high school, with a strong curriculum emphasis in
Child Development and Parenting classes. Her curriculum allowed her to be involved in Head
Start and the Childrens Center doing volunteer work. She has also taught adult and
college classes. Her training has involved teaching "Developing Capable People,"
"Youth Empowering Systems," "Impact Training," and "Taking
Charge."
