Central Arkansas Preparing for Parenthood: What
to Do After the Baby Arrives This class is designed for first time expectant parents. The focus will be on discussing various parenting issues, including preparing for the role of a new parent, infant development, infant stimulation, infant temperament, day care, preventing sleep and feeding problems and injury prevention. Going to School This class will review the ten hallmarks of children who do well in school and share ideas for encouraging those hallmarks at home. You Did What? Talking is one of the most effective ways you can share information with your children, strengthen your relationship with them, help them deal with their emotions and pass on to them values, beliefs, and hopes. As parents, your goal is to keep your children talking to you. This workshop will present ideas designed to communicate more effectively with your children. Parenting Younger Children with
Oppositional Defiant Disorder This workshop will include discussions of the nature and causes of Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), resources and treatments available, and specific parenting skills used to improve behavior. This is designed for parents of younger children, not teens. Reading: It's a Family Affair This workshop is designed to present reading as a family adventure. Tools and resources will be provided to encourage parents to use creative opportunities for reading and to establish family traditions. Reading opportunities for all ages will be presented. Summer Home Learning Fun So now that you're staring at the "lazy, crazy days of summer," what now? Many kids would like nothing more than a TV and a full refrigerator, but you know they need more stimulation than that! Learn ideas for summer fun and stimulation! Being an Effective Parent During the
Toddler & Preschool Years This class is designed for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. The focus will be on discussing various parenting issues, including discipline, sleep problems, self-esteem, sibling rivalry, children and television, and injury prevention. Right From Birth Parents will be led through the stages of early childhood from birth to 18 months and give practical advice on how adults can prepare infants for a lifetime of learning from the day they're born. Readiness (Promoting Your Child's Self Esteem and Encouraging Cooperation) Do you desire a confident and cooperative child? This class will examine how parent can, in just 10 minutes a day, promote those characteristics in children. Designed for parents of children ages 2-6. The Incredible Years: School
Readiness (Promoting Your Child's Thinking Skills) This class examines how parents can promote thinking skills and problem solving skills during play. Designed for parents of children ages 2-6. The Incredible Years: School
Readiness (Academic Skills and Social Skills Coaching) This class examine how to use child-directed play effectively to promote children's academic and social skills. Designed for parents of children ages 2-6. The Incredible Years: School
Readiness (Interactive Reading) Good reading skills are key in a child's success in school. This class examines some ways parents can foster children's reading and language skills while at the same time, promoting problem solving and social-emotional understanding. Designed for parents of children ages 2-6. Defusing Divorce: Helping
Children Cope During and Following the Divorce This seminar is designed for divorcing or recently divorced parents. The focus will be on minimizing the negative effects of parental divorce on children. The Incredible Years: School
Readiness (Bringing Out the Best in Your Child) Research has shown that praise and encouragement from parents can be used to guide children through the many small steps it takes to master new skills, to help children to develop a good self-image, and to provide the motivation children need to stay with a difficult task. Readiness (Teaching Children to Problem Solve) There is evidence that children who employ appropriate problem solving strategies play more constructively, are better liked by their peers, and are more cooperative at home and school. This workshop will present methods both parents and teachers can use to teach those problem solving skills. Designed for parents of children ages 2-6. Back to School Series: Creating

Increasing Your Child's Motivation to Learn and Improving Your Child's
School Organization Parents will learn how they play an important role in teaching their children organizational skills and keeping them motivated to practice these skills. This class will also discuss some of the important issues in understanding what motivates students to learn, and what you can do as a parent to increase your child's motivaiton. Homework-How to Motivate Your Child and Improving Your Child's Study Skills These classes will teach specific strategies and techniques that parents can use to motivate their children to successfully do their homework on time and on their own. It will also show parents how they can play an important role in helping their children develop good study habits and skills. Parent Leadership Development

Fragile Child A three part mini-series dealing with children who have encountered a major trauma in their lives. The series cover a range of topics including separation, divorce, step/blended families, joint custody issues and removal from home. Special attention is given to the emotional and long-term psychological impact on children. These are excellent for foster and adoptive parents as well. Special Needs
Kids A four part series addressing ADD/ADHD, the Strong Willed/Manipulative Child, the Oppositional Defiant Child, and Autism/Aspergers Syndrome. These classes are designed to help parents gain insight into the world of these children, and better understand how No Child Left Behind will affect their emotional and educational progress in school.
